Ingredient: Ipratropium Bromide

What is Berodual® Solution for Inhalation?

Berodual® is a combination bronchodilator used for inhalation therapy.

It contains two active ingredients, Ipratropium Bromide and Fenoterol, which work together to help open up the airways, making it easier to breathe for people with certain lung conditions.

These two components act on different parts of the respiratory system to reduce bronchospasm, commonly experienced in conditions like asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

How does Berodual® work?

Berodual® works by combining two bronchodilators with different mechanisms of action.

Ipratropium Bromide blocks the cholinergic receptors in the airways, helping to prevent the tightening of airway muscles.

On the other hand, Fenoterol stimulates beta2-adrenoreceptors, which relaxes the smooth muscles in the bronchi and helps reduce constriction.

This dual action leads to effective airway dilation, making breathing easier for those with obstructive airway conditions.

What conditions can Berodual® help with?

Berodual® is primarily used for the prevention and symptomatic treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases (COPD), such as chronic bronchitis and emphysema.

It is also beneficial for treating bronchial asthma by helping to relieve reversible airway obstruction.

How should Berodual® be used?

Berodual® is used with a nebulizer for inhalation, ensuring that the medication directly reaches the lungs.

The dosage is individualized depending on the severity of the condition.

For adults and children over 12 years, the typical dose for an acute asthma attack starts with 1 ml (20 drops), and in severe cases, it can go up to 2.5 ml (50 drops). The maximum daily dose should not exceed 8 ml.

For children aged 6-12, the initial dose is 0.5-1 ml (10-20 drops), with a maximum daily dose of 4 ml.

The solution must be diluted with saline before use and should not be taken orally.

Are there any side effects of Berodual®?

Like all medications, Berodual® may cause side effects.

The most common ones include dry mouth, cough, headache, dizziness, and nervousness.

Some users may experience tremors, increased heart rate, or throat irritation.

More serious side effects, though rare, could include increased eye pressure, leading to glaucoma, or severe allergic reactions.

Always consult a healthcare professional if side effects are severe or persistent.

Who should avoid using Berodual®?

Berodual® is contraindicated in people with hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy, tachyarrhythmia, or those who are hypersensitive to any of the ingredients.

Additionally, individuals in the first and third trimesters of pregnancy should avoid using this medication.

Those with conditions such as glaucoma, high blood pressure, or heart disease should use Berodual® with caution and under medical supervision.

How should Berodual® be stored?

Store Berodual® in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, at a temperature not exceeding 30°C (86°F).

Ensure it is kept out of reach of children and do not freeze the solution.

The shelf life of the product is typically five years from the date of manufacture.

Can Berodual® interact with other medications?

Yes, Berodual® may interact with other medications, particularly beta-adrenergic drugs, xanthine derivatives like theophylline, and corticosteroids.

These interactions may enhance the bronchodilating effects but could also increase the risk of side effects.

It's essential to inform your healthcare provider of all medications you are currently taking before starting Berodual®.
