Pharmacological properties
of Potassium permanganate - an antiseptic agent. Effect of drug is caused by its strong oxidizing properties. At contact with organic substances emits elemental oxygen. The oxide which is formed at drug restoration forms with proteins complex connections - albuminates, at the expense of this potassium permanganate in small concentration renders knitting, and in strong solutions the action - irritating, cauterizing and tanning. Has also deodorizing effect. It is effective at treatment of burns and ulcers.
The ability of potassium of permanganate to neutralize some poisons is the cornerstone of use of its solutions for gastric lavage in poisonings with unknown poison and food toxicoinfections.
Indications
- washing of wounds, ulcer and burn surfaces
- rinsing of a mouth and throat
- syringing and washing in gynecologic and urological practice
- gastric lavage in poisonings with alkaloids, morphine, nicotine, cyanhydric acid, quinine, phosphorus, food toxicoinfections
the Route of administration and doses
to Adults and children: outwardly in the form of aqueous solutions: for washing of wounds of 0.1-0.5%, ulcer and burn surfaces of 2-5%, for rinsing of a mouth and a throat of 0.01-0.1%, syringing and washing in gynecologic and urological practice of 0.02-0.1%. Solutions of 0.02-0.1% apply also to gastric lavage in poisonings.
It is necessary to use only the freshly cooked and filtered permanganate potassium solution. At preparation of solution it is necessary to be guided by the saturation of color of solution: for washing of wounds, rinsing of a mouth and a throat, syringings and washings in gynecologic and urological practice, a stomach in poisonings weak-pink solution is used. For ulcers and burns prepare the solution which was more concentrated, bringing to saturated-violet color.
Side effects
- irritation of sensitive skin at topical administration
- allergic reactions (burning)
- burns of wound surfaces and a mucous membrane when using strong solutions

- the hypersensitivity to drug
Medicinal interactions
In interaction (coal, sugar, glycerin, alcohol, tannin, etc.) can happen to organic and flammable substances explosion.
Special instructions
Strong solution of potassium of permanganate at external use paints skin in brown color. Solution of potassium of permanganate cannot be used as means for abortion as administration of drug in the high concentrated doses in a vagina causes a deep burn, heavy bleeding.
Pregnancy, a lactation, children's age
Perhaps use
it is on doctor's orders not effective in poisonings with cocaine, atropine and barbiturates.
Features of influence of medicine on ability to run the vehicle or potentially dangerous mechanisms
Drug does not affect ability to run the vehicle and work with potentially dangerous mechanisms.
Overdose
Symptoms: at overdose of drug the sharp stomatalgia, on the gullet course, in a stomach, vomiting, diarrhea, a mucous membrane of a mouth and throat - hydropic is observed, dark brown, violet color, the laryngeal edema and development of mechanical asphyxia, burn shock, motive excitement, spasms, heavy pneumonia, hemorrhagic colitis, a nephropathy, a hepatopathy, parkinsonism phenomena is possible. At the lowered acidity of gastric juice the development of a methemoglobinemia with the profound cyanosis and an asthma is possible. A lethal dose for children - about 3 g, for adult 0.3-0.5 g/kg.
Treatment: hospitalization in toxicological department

On 5 g in bottles polymeric. Bottles together with iinstruktion on medical use in the state and Russian languages pack into feet from brown paper or into a box of cardboard bandbox either a film polyethylene thermoshrinkable or boxes from corrugated fibreboard.
