What are the common uses for DAZOLIC®?
DAZOLIC® is used to treat a variety of infections:
Trichomoniasis: This is a sexually transmitted infection caused by the parasite Trichomonas vaginalis, which affects both men and women. The infection can lead to symptoms such as itching, burning, and discharge, although some people may not have noticeable symptoms. DAZOLIC® effectively treats this infection by targeting the parasite.
Amoebiasis: This infection is caused by the Entamoeba histolytica parasite and can result in severe intestinal symptoms, including amoebic dysentery (bloody diarrhea). The drug is also effective in treating extraintestinal amoebiasis, particularly in cases of liver abscesses. DAZOLIC® helps eliminate the parasite, stopping both intestinal infections and related liver conditions.
Giardiasis: Caused by the parasite Giardia lamblia, this infection leads to digestive problems such as diarrhea, bloating, and cramps. DAZOLIC® works by attacking the parasite in the intestines, clearing up the infection quickly.
How should DAZOLIC® be taken?
DAZOLIC® is usually taken after meals to improve absorption and minimize stomach discomfort.
For different infections, the dosages vary:
- Trichomoniasis: A single dose of 3 tablets or 2 tablets per day for 5 days. Both partners should be treated to avoid reinfection.
- Amoebiasis: 3-day treatment for amoebic dysentery, or a 5-day course for other amoebic infections.
- Giardiasis: Treatment lasts 1 to 2 days, with the dosage depending on the patient's body weight.
