What is Evkazolin® Aqua (Xylometazoline) Nasal Spray?
Evkazolin® Aqua is a nasal spray used to relieve nasal congestion and symptoms of sinus infections, common colds, and other nasal conditions.
It contains Xylometazoline hydrochloride, a decongestant that works by narrowing the blood vessels in the nasal passages.
This effect helps reduce swelling and congestion, making it easier to breathe through the nose.
How does Evkazolin® Aqua work?
Xylometazoline, the active ingredient in Evkazolin® Aqua, belongs to a group of medicines called sympathomimetics.
These medications help reduce nasal swelling and improve airflow by constricting blood vessels in the nasal mucosa.
This makes it easier for mucus to drain and alleviates nasal discomfort, providing quick relief from blocked or stuffy noses.
What conditions is Evkazolin® Aqua used for?
Evkazolin® Aqua is commonly prescribed for:
- Relief from nasal congestion caused by colds or allergies.
- Reducing swelling in the sinuses (sinusitis).
- Alleviating nasal congestion in ear infections.
- Preparing the nasal passages for medical examinations, such as rhinoscopy.
How should I use Evkazolin® Aqua?
For adults and children over 12 years old, use 1 spray in each nostril up to 3 times a day.
Do not exceed 3 sprays per day.
It is important not to use this product for more than 7 consecutive days, as prolonged use can lead to rebound congestion (medication-induced rhinitis).
What precautions should I take before using Evkazolin® Aqua?
Evkazolin® Aqua should not be used if you:
- Are allergic to Xylometazoline or any of the ingredients in the spray.
- Have had surgery involving the pituitary gland or procedures exposing the brain's protective membranes.
- Have certain eye conditions like narrow-angle glaucoma.
- Are under the age of 12.
Always use caution if you have conditions such as high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, or thyroid disorders.
Consult your doctor if you experience adverse reactions like dizziness, insomnia, or increased heart rate when using decongestants.
Are there any side effects?
Common side effects include:
- Headache.
- Dryness or irritation of the nasal passages.
- Mild nausea or a burning sensation at the site of application.
Less common effects include:
- Nosebleeds.
- Allergic reactions, such as rash or itching.

If side effects become severe or you experience symptoms like vision disturbances, seek medical advice immediately.
Can I use Evkazolin® Aqua during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Evkazolin® Aqua is not recommended for use during pregnancy due to its vasoconstrictive effects.
It is not clear whether Xylometazoline passes into breast milk, so consult your doctor before using the product if you are breastfeeding.
How should I store Evkazolin® Aqua?
Store Evkazolin® Aqua in a cool, dry place, away from light, at temperatures below 25°C (77°F).
Keep the product out of the reach of children.
What should I do if I use too much Evkazolin® Aqua?
If you accidentally use too much of the nasal spray, you may experience symptoms such as dizziness, excessive sweating, or slowed heart rate.
In case of overdose, seek medical attention immediately. Keep the patient under observation for several hours if symptoms occur.
