Pharmacodynamics

Corvaldin ® is a sedative and antispasmodic drug, the effect of which is determined by its constituent components.

Ethyl ester of α-bromoisovaleric acid has sedative and antispasmodic effects due to irritation of the receptors of the oral cavity and nasopharynx, a decrease in reflex excitability in the central parts of the nervous system and an increase in inhibition in the neurons of the cortex and subcortical structures of the brain, as well as a decrease in the activity of vasomotor centers and direct local antispasmodic action on vascular smooth muscle.

Phenobarbital inhibits the stimulating effect of the centers of the reticular formation on the cerebral cortex. Calming, tranquilizing and hypnotic effects depend on the dose of the drug.

Peppermint oil has a reflex, vasodilating, antispasmodic, mild choleretic, antiseptic effect. The mechanism of action is associated with the ability to irritate the "cold" receptors of the oral mucosa and reflexively expand mainly the vessels of the heart and brain. Eliminates the phenomena of flatulence due to irritation of the receptors of the gastrointestinal mucosa, increasing intestinal motility. Hop oil has a sedative, antispasmodic effect, a weak diuretic effect.

Corvaldin® - a sedative that can be used in a state of excitement, fear, nervousness, imbalance and anxiety; favorably affects the activity of an overloaded and excited heart; well tolerated by the body, if you adhere to the doses prescribed by the doctor. Taking the drug reduces the excitation of the central nervous system and facilitates the onset of sleep.

Corvaldin ® reduces the general arterial pressure, reduces and prevents spasms of blood vessels, mainly those of the heart and brain.

Indications for use

- neurosis with increased irritability

- insomnia

- in the complex therapy of hypertension and vegetovascular dystonia

- functional disorders of the cardiovascular system (sinus tachycardia)

- intestinal spasms (as an antispasmodic drug)

Dosage and administration

The duration of the drug is set by the doctor depending on the clinical effect and tolerability of the drug.

Side effects

Corvaldin ® is generally well tolerated. In some cases, side effects may occur:

- discomfort in the stomach and intestines, nausea

- drowsiness, slight dizziness, decreased concentration

- allergic reactions

- slowing of the heart rate.

These phenomena are eliminated by reducing the dose.

With prolonged use, dependence on the drug and the phenomenon of bromism are possible. Symptoms: depression of the central nervous system, depression, apathy, rhinitis, conjunctivitis, acne, hemorrhagic diathesis, impaired coordination, confusion.

Contraindications

- hypersensitivity to the components of the drug

- severe violations of the liver and / or kidneys

- hepatic porphyria

- severe heart failure

- pregnancy and lactation

- alcoholism

Interactions

Drugs that have a depressant effect on the central nervous system enhance the effect of Corvaldin ® . The presence of phenobarbital in the preparation can induce liver enzymes, so it is undesirable to use it together with drugs that are metabolized in the liver (coumarin derivatives, griseofulvin, glucocorticoids, oral contraceptives), as their effectiveness will decrease as a result of a higher level of metabolism.

Corvaldin ® enhances the effect of local anesthetics, analgesics and hypnotics, this is due to the content of barbituric acid derivatives.

With simultaneous use with valproic acid, its effect is enhanced.

When used with methotrexate, its toxicity increases.

Alcohol enhances the effect of the drug and its toxicity.

Overdose

Overdose is possible with frequent or prolonged use of the drug, which is associated with the cumulation of its components. Prolonged and constant use causes addiction, withdrawal symptoms, psychomotor agitation. Abrupt discontinuation of the drug may cause a withdrawal syndrome.

Symptoms: depression of the central nervous system, confusion, dizziness, ataxia, drowsiness, up to deep sleep. In severe cases of poisoning - respiratory failure, tachycardia, arrhythmias, lowering blood pressure, collapse, coma.
