Poison of a viper contains also peptides of specific action which are the reason of hemolysis, increase permeability of capillaries, influence fibrillation. At topical administration, poison of a viper has the irritating and soothing effect, activates protective mechanisms of an organism at a resorption.
The ointments which are a part camphor and turpentine also irritate sensitive nerve terminations and by that, have local irritative and soothing effect.
The irritation causes activation of the complex multilevel organization of an anti-nociceptive system which mechanisms are implemented in all departments of painful sensitivity, beginning from an afferent entrance in a spinal cord and finishing a cerebral cortex. The irritation in the corresponding segment of a spinal cord interferes with primary painful impulses to reach a cerebral cortex and interferes with perception of pain. Endogenous connections enkephalins and endorphins (sometimes they are called pleasure hormones) and other peptides playing an important role in regulation of pain, permeability of vessels and other processes take part in functioning of an anti-nociceptive system. The local and reflex reactions arising at the same time promote improvement of blood supply and food of fabrics, easing of pains.
