Indications for use


- peripheral (sensory-motor) diabetic polyneuropathy

Method of administration and dosage


Take 1 tablet of Thioctacid 600BV once a day as a single dose, 30 minutes before the first meal.

Take on an empty stomach, without chewing and drinking plenty of water. Combining with food can reduce the absorption of alpha lipoic acid.

The duration of treatment is determined by the attending physician individually.

Side effects


- nausea, vomiting, pain in the stomach and intestines, diarrhea

- skin rash, hives, itching

- dizziness, sweating, headache and blurred vision due to low blood sugar

- jaundice

- peptic ulcer

Contraindications


- hypersensitivity to alpha lipoic acid
- children up to age 18
- pregnancy and lactation

Drug interactions


There was a decrease in the effectiveness of cisplatin when administered simultaneously with Thioctacid. The drug should not be administered concurrently with iron, magnesium, potassium preparations; the time interval between taking these drugs should be at least 5 hours. Since the hypoglycemic effect of insulin or oral antidiabetic agents may increase, regular blood sugar control is recommended, especially at the beginning of therapy with Thioctacid 600BV. To avoid symptoms of hypoglycemia, blood glucose levels must be carefully monitored.

Special instructions


During treatment with the drug, the use of alcohol is contraindicated.

Overdose


Symptoms

- generalized seizures
- severe violations of the acid-base balance, leading to lactic acidosis
- severe bleeding disorders

At the slightest concern about the possible intoxication with Thioctacid 600 BV (more than 10 tablets of 600 mg for adults or more than 50 mg per kilogram of the child's weight), immediate hospitalization is indicated with general therapeutic measures for detoxification (artificial induction of vomiting, gastric lavage, activated charcoal).

Treatment: symptomatic, no specific antidote.
