What is POLYOXIDONIUM® (Azoximer Bromide)?
POLYOXIDONIUM® is an innovative immunomodulating and detoxifying agent designed to support the body’s natural defense mechanisms.
Its active ingredient, Azoximer Bromide, enhances immune function and helps the body resist viral, bacterial, and fungal infections.
The medicine is used for both treatment and prevention of a wide range of infectious and inflammatory diseases, supporting overall immune resilience and recovery.
Available in multiple forms such as tablets, suppositories, and injectable solutions, it offers versatile options for adults and children.
With its dual action - strengthening immunity and aiding tissue regeneration - POLYOXIDONIUM® is often included in comprehensive therapy programs for respiratory infections, chronic inflammations, allergic conditions, and even as a supportive therapy during cancer treatments. It is suitable for use in clinical settings and at home, following healthcare guidance.
When is POLYOXIDONIUM® used?
This medicine is indicated for treatment and prevention of acute and chronic infections in adults and children.
It supports recovery during active infection and helps maintain remission in chronic cases.
The conditions treated with POLYOXIDONIUM® include:
- Respiratory tract infections (pharyngitis, sinusitis, otitis, bronchitis)
- Viral, bacterial, and fungal infections
- Allergic diseases such as asthma, hay fever, and atopic dermatitis
- Chronic infections of the ear, nose, throat, and urogenital tract
- Tuberculosis, rheumatoid arthritis, and immune deficiencies
- Recovery support during and after chemotherapy or radiation therapy
How should POLYOXIDONIUM® tablets be taken?
Tablets containing 12 mg of Azoximer Bromide can be taken orally or sublingually (under the tongue), about 20–30 minutes before meals.
Treatment duration and frequency depend on the condition and patient’s age:
- Adults: 1 tablet once or twice daily for 7–10 days
- Children 3–10 years: ½ tablet twice daily for 7–10 days
- Children over 10 years: 1 tablet twice daily for 7–10 days
For preventive use, adults and children may take POLYOXIDONIUM® daily during seasonal outbreaks to reduce infection risk.
Repeated courses can be given every 3–4 months without loss of effectiveness.
How to use POLYOXIDONIUM® suppositories?
Suppositories (6 mg and 12 mg) are administered rectally or vaginally, depending on the condition.
They are suitable for adults and children over 6 years old. The dosage varies by indication:
- Adults: 1 suppository daily for 3 days, then every other day (total 10 doses)
- Children 6–18 years: 1 suppository of 6 mg daily or every other day
- In chronic or complex cases, treatment may last up to 2–3 months
The suppositories support immune function, tissue regeneration, and detoxification.
They are often used alongside antibiotics, antifungal, or antiviral medicines.
How is POLYOXIDONIUM® solution administered?
The injectable solution (6 mg/ml) is given intramuscularly or intravenously.
It is prescribed for adults and children from 6 months old. The standard dosage is:
- Adults: 6–12 mg once daily or every other day for 5–10 injections
- Children: 0.1–0.15 mg/kg once daily or every other day for 5–10 injections
This method is especially effective for severe infections, postoperative recovery, allergic disorders, and in oncology to reduce toxicity during therapy.
What precautions should be considered?
POLYOXIDONIUM® should not be used by individuals with acute kidney failure, lactose intolerance (for tablets), or hypersensitivity to any of its ingredients. It is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Patients with chronic kidney disease should use it cautiously, no more than twice weekly.
If signs of allergy appear, stop using the medicine and seek medical advice.
Can POLYOXIDONIUM® interact with other medicines?
Yes, but it is safe for use alongside most medicines. Azoximer Bromide does not inhibit key liver enzymes (CYP450 system), making it compatible with antibiotics, antivirals, antifungals, corticosteroids, and cytostatics.
Always consult a healthcare professional before combining with other treatments.
