- $7.00
What is Otipol® Ear Drops?
Otipol® Ear Drops is a combination medication used to treat certain ear infections.
It contains three active ingredients: Neomycin, Dexamethasone, and Polymyxin B.
Neomycin and Polymyxin B are antibiotics that help eliminate bacteria, while Dexamethasone is a corticosteroid that reduces inflammation.
This combination makes Otipol® effective in treating infections of the external ear, particularly when inflammation and bacteria are present.
When Should You Use Otipol® Ear Drops?
Otipol® Ear Drops are primarily used for treating outer ear infections, also known as otitis externa, when the eardrum is intact.
It is also effective in treating infected eczema of the outer ear canal.
However, it is crucial not to use this medication if the eardrum is perforated due to the risk of ototoxicity, which can lead to hearing loss or balance problems.
How Should You Use Otipol® Ear Drops?
To use Otipol® Ear Drops, follow these steps:
- Warm the bottle in your hand to avoid discomfort from cold liquid.
- Tilt your head to one side and gently pull the ear lobe to open the ear canal.
- Instill the prescribed number of drops into the affected ear.
- Keep your head tilted for about 5 minutes to allow the drops to penetrate the ear canal.
- If both ears are affected, repeat the process in the other ear.
For adults, the usual dosage is 1-5 drops twice a day, while for children, the dosage ranges from 1-2 drops twice a day, depending on age. The treatment usually lasts for 7 days.
What Should You Know Before Using Otipol® Ear Drops?
Before using Otipol® Ear Drops, it is essential to ensure the eardrum is intact.
Do not use this medication if you have a perforated eardrum. Additionally, it is important to be aware of potential allergic reactions.
If you experience any signs of a rash, irritation, or other allergic symptoms, stop using the drops immediately and consult a healthcare provider.
Are There Any Possible Side Effects?
Otipol® Ear Drops, like any medication, may cause side effects.
Some users may develop local reactions such as irritation or sensitization to the antibiotics, which can complicate future treatments.
In rare cases, if the eardrum is damaged, there could be risks of hearing loss or balance issues due to ototoxicity.
Blurred vision or other vision disturbances may occur if the corticosteroid is absorbed systemically.
If you experience any of these symptoms, seek medical advice promptly.
How Should You Store Otipol® Ear Drops?
Store Otipol® Ear Drops at a temperature between 15°C and 25°C (59°F to 77°F) in a place protected from light and out of reach of children.
Once opened, the drops should be used within four weeks.
Do not use the drops after the expiration date.
Can You Use Otipol® Ear Drops During Pregnancy or Breastfeeding?
There is limited information regarding the use of Otipol® Ear Drops during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Given that systemic absorption is unlikely unless the eardrum is perforated, the drops may be used if clearly needed.
However, it is always best to consult with a healthcare provider to weigh the potential risks and benefits.
What Should You Do If You Miss a Dose?
If you miss a dose of Otipol® Ear Drops, use it as soon as you remember.
However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule.
Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.
What If You Overdose on Otipol® Ear Drops?
While an overdose of Otipol® Ear Drops is unlikely, as they are for topical use, it is important to follow the prescribed dosage.
If you accidentally apply more than recommended, wipe away the excess and continue with the next dose as directed.
If you have concerns, seek medical advice.
When Should You Contact a Doctor?
If symptoms do not improve after 10 days of treatment, or if they worsen, contact your healthcare provider.
They may need to reassess your condition and consider alternative treatments.
Always consult a doctor if you have any questions or concerns about using Otipol® Ear Drops.
