What Is NORCOLUT® (Norethisterone) 5 mg?

NORCOLUT® (Norethisterone) 5 mg is a hormonal medication used to address a variety of gynecological and hormonal conditions.

It contains norethisterone, a progestogen that mimics the action of the natural hormone progesterone. This medication is effective in regulating menstrual cycles, managing endometriosis, and controlling uterine bleeding.

NORCOLUT® works by modifying the uterine lining and preventing ovulation through hormonal suppression.

Each tablet contains 5 mg of norethisterone, combined with essential excipients, and is available in packs of 20 tablets.

Designed for oral use, it is a trusted option for treating several hormonal imbalances under medical supervision.

How Does NORCOLUT® Work?

Norethisterone, the active ingredient in NORCOLUT®, acts by mimicking the natural hormone progesterone.

It transforms the uterine lining from the proliferative to the secretory phase, suppressing ovulation by blocking the release of gonadotropins from the pituitary gland.

This makes it effective in regulating menstrual cycles, managing hormonal disorders, and other related conditions.

What Conditions Does NORCOLUT® Treat?

NORCOLUT® is prescribed for:

  • Premenstrual syndrome and cyclical breast pain.
  • Irregular menstrual cycles, including short luteal phases.
  • Dysfunctional uterine bleeding.
  • Endometrial hyperplasia and endometriosis.
  • Prevention or cessation of lactation.
  • Menopausal bleeding.

How Should I Take NORCOLUT®?

  • For menstrual irregularities, take 5–10 mg daily from the 16th to the 25th day of the cycle.
  • For endometriosis, use 5 mg daily from day 5 to day 25 for up to 6 months.
  • To suppress lactation, follow a gradually reducing dose starting at 15 mg daily.

Always follow your doctor’s prescription and adjust as advised.

Are There Any Contraindications?

  • Are allergic to norethisterone or any other ingredient.
  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding (unless prescribed for lactation cessation).
  • Have or are at risk of thromboembolic disorders.

Can NORCOLUT® Interact With Other Medications?

  • Herbal supplements like St. John’s Wort.
  • HIV or hepatitis C medications.

Inform your healthcare provider about all medications and supplements you take.
