What is Niotit-DF (Chloramphenicol, Lidocaine) Ear Drops?
Niotit-DF is a medicinal ear drop solution that combines the antibiotic chloramphenicol with the anesthetic lidocaine.
It is designed to treat specific ear infections and provide pain relief.
This combination makes it effective against bacterial infections while also soothing discomfort associated with ear conditions.
Each 10 ml bottle of Niotit-DF contains 0.1 g of chloramphenicol and 0.1 g of lidocaine hydrochloride, along with other auxiliary substances like boric acid and ethyl alcohol.
What Conditions Does Niotit-DF Treat?
Niotit-DF ear drops are typically prescribed for the treatment of:
- External otitis (without perforation of the eardrum): An infection of the outer ear canal, often caused by bacteria or fungi.
- Non-purulent otitis media: A type of middle ear infection where fluid accumulation occurs without the presence of pus.
How Should Niotit-DF Be Used?
Dosage and Administration:
- Children (aged 3 and above): 2-3 drops in the affected ear, 2-3 times per day.
- Adults and children aged 14 and above: 3-4 drops in the affected ear, 2-3 times per day.
Application Instructions:
- Before applying the drops, replace the bottle cap with the provided screw-on plastic cap, which integrates a glass dropper.
- Clean the outer ear canal thoroughly.
- Warm the ear drops to body temperature by holding the bottle in warm water (35-36°C / 95-97°F) or in your hand for a few minutes.
- Tilt the head to the opposite side of the affected ear and administer the drops along the upper rear wall of the ear canal.
- Gently press the tragus (the small protrusion in front of the ear canal) with a cotton ball a few times to help the drops penetrate.
- After 10-15 minutes, tilt the head in the opposite direction to drain the ear and dry the canal with a sterile cotton swab.
Treatment Duration:
- Children: 2-5 days.
- Adults: 5-7 days.
What Should You Know Before Using Niotit-DF?
Contraindications:
- Do not use if the eardrum is perforated due to infection or injury.
- Avoid if you have a known allergy to any components of the medication.
- Not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
- Not recommended for children under 3 years of age.
- Should not be used in cases of viral or fungal ear infections, or if the ear canal has eczema.
- Individuals with blood disorders, such as bone marrow suppression or acute intermittent porphyria, should not use this medication.
Interactions:
- Niotit-DF should not be used simultaneously with other medications applied to the ear.
- Chloramphenicol in Niotit-DF can reduce the effectiveness of certain antibiotics like aminoglycosides, penicillins, and tetracyclines.
- It is also incompatible with vitamin C, hydrocortisone, and B vitamins.
What Side Effects Can Occur?

- Mild irritation of the skin and mucous membranes.
- Local allergic reactions, such as rash, itching, redness, and swelling.
