What is NEODEX®?

NEODEX® is a combination eye, nasal, and ear drop solution designed to treat ophthalmic and otorhinolaryngologic conditions. It contains dexamethasone, a potent anti-inflammatory glucocorticosteroid, and neomycin, an antibiotic with a broad spectrum of antibacterial action.

What Are the Active Ingredients in NEODEX®?

Each milliliter of NEODEX® solution contains:

• Dexamethasone sodium phosphate (1 mg)
• Neomycin sulfate (5 mg)

How Does NEODEX® Work?

NEODEX® combines the anti-inflammatory effects of dexamethasone with the antibacterial properties of neomycin. Dexamethasone reduces inflammation, allergic reactions, and sensitivity by inhibiting inflammatory mediators and decreasing capillary permeability. Neomycin disrupts bacterial protein synthesis, effectively targeting a wide range of bacteria.

What Conditions Does NEODEX® Treat?

NEODEX® is used for various conditions, including:

• Acute and chronic bacterial blepharitis
• Acute and chronic bacterial conjunctivitis
• Allergic conjunctivitis
• Keratitis (without epithelial damage)
• Acute and chronic bacterial iritis and iridocyclitis
• Postoperative inflammation prevention in the eye
• Acute and chronic external otitis
• Infectious-allergic diseases of the external ear
• Sinusitis and rhinitis complicated by bacterial infection

How to Use NEODEX®?

For the Eyes:

• For mild infections: Instill 1-2 drops into the conjunctival sac every 4-6 hours.
• For severe infections: Instill 1-2 drops every 1-2 hours, then reduce frequency as symptoms improve.
• For chronic inflammation: Instill 1 drop twice a day.

For the Ears:

• Clean the ear canal before application.
• Instill 3-4 drops 2-3 times a day or use a moistened cotton swab.
• Warm the bottle in your hand before application to avoid discomfort.

For the Nose:

• Instill 2-3 drops 3-4 times a day in each nostril.

What Are the Possible Side Effects?

Common side effects include:

• Burning, tearing, itching, and eyelid swelling
• Increased intraocular pressure with a risk of glaucoma
• Formation of posterior subcapsular cataracts
• Delayed wound healing
• Secondary fungal or viral infections
• Ototoxicity when used with other aminoglycosides

What Are the Contraindications for NEODEX®?

NEODEX® should not be used if you have:

• Hypersensitivity to any component
• Viral infections like Herpes simplex or Varicella zoster
• Fungal eye and ear infections
• Tuberculosis
• Uncomplicated removal of a foreign body from the cornea
• Purulent conjunctivitis and eyelid infections
• Corneal epithelial integrity issues
• Ear drum injuries
• Pregnancy and lactation
• Children and adolescents under 18 years

Can NEODEX® Interact with Other Medications?

Yes, especially with other eye drops and aminoglycoside antibiotics. Ensure a minimum interval of 10 minutes between different eye drops. Monitor systemic antibiotic levels due to potential toxicity when used with systemic aminoglycosides.

Special Precautions for NEODEX®

• Only use NEODEX® after confirming a non-viral, non-fungal diagnosis.
• Avoid contact lens use during treatment.
• Regularly monitor intraocular pressure and corneal health if used for more than seven days.
• Store the bottle at 15°C to 25°C (59°F to 77°F) and protect from light.

What Should You Do in Case of an Overdose?

Overdose symptoms may include an intensification of side effects. Discontinue use and seek symptomatic treatment.

How Should NEODEX® Be Stored?

Store NEODEX® in a cool, dry place at temperatures between 15°C to 25°C (59°F to 77°F) and out of reach of children. The shelf life is two years, and once opened, the solution should be used within four weeks.
