KLION®-D 100 (Metronidazole, Miconazole) 10 vaginal tablets
- $20.00
What is KLION®-D 100?
KLION®-D 100 is a vaginal tablet that combines Metronidazole (100 mg) and Miconazole (100 mg). This targeted medication is designed for the treatment of infections in the female reproductive and urinary systems, specifically trichomoniasis and fungal infections. By combining an antibacterial with an antifungal agent, KLION®-D 100 provides a comprehensive approach to combating these infections. This localized therapy helps minimize the potential for systemic side effects, focusing treatment directly in the area of infection.
How Does KLION®-D 100 Work?
KLION®-D 100 contains two active ingredients that work together to eliminate infection:
Metronidazole: Known for its antibacterial and antiprotozoal properties, Metronidazole disrupts the DNA of harmful microorganisms, which prevents them from reproducing and spreading.
Miconazole: This is a powerful antifungal agent that specifically targets fungi. It works by damaging the cell membrane of fungi, causing their cells to die.
By combining these two agents, KLION®-D 100 targets multiple types of pathogens, making it effective for mixed infections that involve both bacteria and fungi.
What Are the Usage Instructions for KLION®-D 100?
For Trichomoniasis Treatment:
- Insert one vaginal tablet daily, typically in the evening before bedtime, for 10 consecutive days.
- To increase treatment efficacy, an oral Metronidazole tablet may be recommended in tandem with the vaginal tablets.
- It’s advisable to avoid sexual intercourse during this treatment period to prevent reinfection.
For Fungal Infections:
- Use one vaginal tablet per day at bedtime for 10 days. This approach ensures a consistent concentration of the medication in the vaginal area, targeting fungal cells effectively.
Method of Administration:
- Before insertion, it’s recommended to slightly moisten the tablet with water. This step can help make insertion more comfortable and allows the tablet to dissolve effectively.
- Insert the tablet deeply into the vagina to ensure it reaches the site of infection for maximum therapeutic impact.
Note: For the treatment to be effective, it is essential to complete the full course of the medication as directed, even if symptoms improve before the course ends.
What Precautions Should Be Taken While Using KLION®-D 100?
Avoid Alcohol:
- While using KLION®-D 100 and for at least 24 hours after the final dose, avoid any alcoholic beverages. Alcohol can react with Metronidazole, leading to severe side effects like nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, headaches, and facial flushing.
Abstain from Sexual Intercourse:
- Sexual contact is discouraged during treatment to help prevent reinfection and ensure the medication works effectively without interruption.
Check for Allergies:
- Avoid KLION®-D 100 if you are allergic to Metronidazole, Miconazole, or any inactive ingredients in the formula. Symptoms of an allergic reaction may include itching, swelling, rash, or difficulty breathing.
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding:
- During Pregnancy: KLION®-D 100 is not recommended during the first trimester. During the second and third trimesters, it may be used only if the benefits to the mother outweigh the potential risks to the fetus, as determined by a healthcare provider.
- Breastfeeding: Metronidazole passes into breast milk, potentially giving it a bitter taste. To minimize infant exposure, consider discontinuing breastfeeding or postponing the treatment until breastfeeding is complete. Alternatively, you may wait 12 to 24 hours after the final dose before resuming breastfeeding.
Are There Potential Interactions with Other Medications?
When using KLION®-D 100, be aware of possible interactions with certain medications:
Oral Blood Thinners: KLION®-D 100 may enhance the effect of oral anticoagulants (blood thinners), potentially increasing bleeding risk by prolonging prothrombin time. Adjustments to blood thinner dosages may be necessary.
Liver Enzyme Inducers and Inhibitors:
- Certain medications like phenytoin and phenobarbital may reduce the level of Metronidazole in the blood, potentially making the treatment less effective.
- Cimetidine may slow down Metronidazole metabolism, which can increase its effects and possibly lead to side effects.
Lithium and Cyclosporine:
- Metronidazole can increase plasma lithium levels. If taking lithium, consider adjusting the dose or suspending it during KLION®-D 100 treatment.
- Combining Metronidazole with cyclosporine may increase cyclosporine levels, so monitoring these levels may be necessary.
Alcohol Consumption: Even a small amount of alcohol during treatment can trigger adverse effects similar to disulfiram-like reactions, which can include gastrointestinal distress and other uncomfortable symptoms.
What Are Common Side Effects of KLION®-D 100?
While KLION®-D 100 is generally well-tolerated, some users may experience side effects:
- Very Common: Headaches and nausea are frequently reported.
- Common: May include abdominal pain, cramps, and diarrhea.
- Uncommon: Some users experience reduced appetite, dizziness, or peripheral neuropathy (numbness or tingling), as well as skin reactions such as rash, itching, or hives.
- Rare: In rare cases, KLION®-D 100 may cause a yeast superinfection (such as candidiasis), confusion, or a change in urine color.
If any severe reactions or unusual symptoms occur, such as liver issues or significant numbness, contact a healthcare provider promptly.
How Should KLION®-D 100 Be Stored?
To maintain the effectiveness of KLION®-D 100:
- Storage Location: Store in the original packaging in a dry, light-protected place.
- Temperature: Do not store above 30°C (86°F).
- Safety: Keep the product out of reach of children and avoid using it past the expiration date.
What If I Miss a Dose?
If a dose is missed, do not double up on the next dose. Instead, take the next dose at the usual time and continue with the treatment course as prescribed. Missing doses or altering the schedule may reduce treatment effectiveness.
