Pharmacological properties
Pharmacokinetics
Pharmacokinetic data confirm the absence of intestinal absorption and metabolism of Macrogol 4000 after oral administration.
Pharmacodynamics
The drug belongs to the group of osmotic laxatives. High-molecular compound Macrogol 4000 is a long linear polymers that hold water molecules through hydrogen bonds. Due to this, after oral administration of Macrogol 4000, the volume of intestinal contents increases. The laxative effect occurs relatively slowly - 24-48 hours after taking the drug.
The non-absorbed liquid, which is located in the intestinal lumen, maintains the laxative effect of the solution.
