What is CLABEL® (Clarithromycin) 250 mg / 500 mg?
CLABEL® contains Clarithromycin, a semi-synthetic antibiotic that belongs to the macrolide group. It is available in 250 mg and 500 mg film-coated tablets, used to treat various bacterial infections. These include infections in the respiratory tract, skin, and soft tissues, as well as specific types of mycobacterial infections. The active ingredient in each tablet is clarithromycin, which works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis.
How does CLABEL® work?
Clarithromycin works by stopping bacteria from producing proteins they need to grow and multiply. Without these proteins, bacteria cannot survive, which helps eliminate the infection. It is highly effective against a range of bacteria, including Haemophilus influenzae, Staphylococcus aureus, and Streptococcus pneumoniae. The active metabolite of clarithromycin, 14-hydroxyclarithromycin, further enhances its antibacterial effects.
What infections does CLABEL® treat?
CLABEL® is prescribed for:
- Lower respiratory tract infections (such as bronchitis and pneumonia)
- Upper respiratory tract infections (including sinusitis and pharyngitis)
- Skin and soft tissue infections (like cellulitis, folliculitis)
- Mycobacterial infections (including Mycobacterium avium complex in HIV patients)
- Eradication of Helicobacter pylori in duodenal ulcer patients when combined with other medications.
How should CLABEL® be taken?
For most infections, such as respiratory tract infections (like bronchitis or pneumonia) and skin or soft tissue infections, the recommended dosage for adults is:
- 250 mg taken twice a day (every 12 hours).
- For more severe infections, the dosage can be increased to 500 mg taken twice a day.
The usual duration of treatment is 5 to 14 days, depending on the type and severity of the infection. For conditions like community-acquired pneumonia or sinusitis, the treatment period typically ranges from 6 to 14 days.
For the eradication of Helicobacter pylori (associated with stomach ulcers), CLABEL® is usually part of a combination therapy. The recommended dosage is:
500 mg twice a day, combined with other medications such as amoxicillin and a proton pump inhibitor (like omeprazole or lansoprazole).
Treatment typically lasts 7 to 14 days, depending on the regimen prescribed by your doctor.
With or without food: CLABEL® can be taken with or without food. However, if it causes stomach discomfort, taking it with food may help.
Full course: It is essential to complete the full course of treatment, even if you start feeling better. Stopping the medication too early can lead to the infection returning or resistance developing.
If a dose is missed, take it as soon as you remember. If it is close to the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for the missed one.
What are the common side effects of CLABEL®?
The most frequently reported side effects include:
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Abdominal pain
- Headache
- Insomnia
Other less common side effects may involve changes in liver function, skin rash, and taste disturbances.

Store CLABEL® in a cool, dry place away from light, at a temperature not exceeding 25°C (77°F).
Keep it out of reach of children. Always check the expiration date before use, and do not use the medicine after it has expired.
Can CLABEL® interact with other medications?
