What is Aurobin® Ointment?

Aurobin® Ointment is a topical medication used to treat a variety of inflammatory conditions in the perianal region, including hemorrhoids, anal fissures, itching, eczema, and dermatitis.

This ointment is designed to soothe the affected area and promote healing.

It combines ingredients like corticosteroids, lidocaine, and dexpanthenol to reduce inflammation, numb the area, and aid in skin repair.

What is the composition of Aurobin® Ointment?

Aurobin® Ointment contains the following active ingredients:

  • Prednisolone capronate (0.04 g): A corticosteroid that reduces inflammation and itching.
  • Dexpanthenol (0.40 g): A form of vitamin B5 that helps promote skin healing.
  • Lidocaine hydrochloride (0.40 g): A local anesthetic that provides pain relief by numbing the affected area.

In addition to the active ingredients, Aurobin® Ointment also includes several excipients (inactive ingredients) that help with the consistency and preservation of the product:

  • Polysorbate 60
  • Triclosan
  • Methylparahydroxybenzoate (E218)
  • Cetyl alcohol
  • Glycerin
  • Propylene glycol (E1520)
  • Macrogol stearate
  • Liquid paraffin
  • Dimethicone
  • Neutral oil
  • Stearic acid
  • Purified water

These excipients ensure that the ointment is easy to apply and effective for its intended purpose.

Keep in mind that some of these components, like methylparahydroxybenzoate and cetyl alcohol, may cause allergic reactions in sensitive individuals.

What are the uses of Aurobin® Ointment?

Aurobin® Ointment is primarily used for:

  • Hemorrhoids
  • Anal fissures
  • Inflammatory skin conditions in the perianal area
  • Itching or eczema around the anus

These conditions can cause discomfort and irritation, and Aurobin® Ointment helps alleviate these symptoms by reducing inflammation and providing localized pain relief.

What precautions should be taken before using Aurobin® Ointment?

Before using Aurobin® Ointment, consider the following precautions:

  • Allergic reactions: If you are allergic to any of the ingredients, such as lidocaine or corticosteroids, avoid using the product.
  • Skin infections: Do not use the ointment if you have untreated bacterial, viral, or fungal skin infections.
  • Children: The ointment should not be used in children under 1 year old.
  • Pregnancy: Avoid using the ointment during the first trimester of pregnancy unless advised by a doctor.
  • Eye contact: Make sure not to apply the ointment near the eyes or surrounding areas.

How should Aurobin® Ointment be applied?

Aurobin® Ointment is for external use only. Apply it to the affected area 2 to 4 times a day, depending on the severity of your symptoms. Once symptoms improve, you may reduce the frequency of application. For children over the age of 1, use the ointment only in the lowest effective dose and for a short duration (typically no more than 5 days). Avoid applying it to large areas or broken skin, and do not use it under occlusive dressings.

Are there any side effects associated with Aurobin® Ointment?

Although side effects are uncommon when the ointment is used as directed, some possible side effects include:

  • Skin irritation or allergic reactions
  • Atrophy (thinning) of the skin with prolonged use, especially in children
  • Hormonal imbalances due to corticosteroid absorption, which can suppress adrenal function
  • Vision disturbances, such as blurred vision, cataracts, or glaucoma, if corticosteroids are absorbed systemically

What should be done in case of an overdose?

In case of overdose, symptoms can vary depending on how much of the medication is absorbed into the body.

These may include systemic effects like adrenal suppression from corticosteroids or central nervous system effects from lidocaine.

Treatment should be supportive and symptomatic. If you suspect an overdose, contact a healthcare provider immediately.

Can Aurobin® Ointment be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

The safety of Aurobin® Ointment during pregnancy has not been fully established. Therefore, it is advised to avoid using it during pregnancy, especially in the first trimester. For breastfeeding mothers, corticosteroids and lidocaine may pass into breast milk in small amounts, so caution is advised. Consult your doctor before using this ointment while breastfeeding.

How should Aurobin® Ointment be stored?

Store Aurobin® Ointment at a temperature between 8°C and 15°C (46°F to 59°F), in a location out of reach of children.

Do not use the ointment after the expiration date listed on the packaging.
