1ml solution contains
- Active ingredients: Cytochrome C 0.675 mg/ml, Adenosine 2 mg/ml, Nicotinamide 20 mg/ml,
- Excipients: benzalkonium chloride, sodium succinate hexahydrate, sorbitol, sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate, sodium hydrogen phosphate dihydrate, water for injection.
When applied topically, Cytochrome C is not absorbed into the blood. Adenosine passes freely through the cornea and is distributed to all tissues. The half-life of adenosine from blood plasma is less than one minute, it is metabolized in almost all tissues with the formation of inosine, xanthine and urate, which are freely excreted in the urine. Ribose, which is a constituent element of adenosine, is metabolized to glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate, then to pyruvate and burns out in the Krebs cycle. Nicotinamide is rapidly absorbed and partially metabolized to nicotinic acid. Both of these compounds are metabolized to N-methylnicotinamide, which is further broken down in the liver. Metabolites and unchanged nicotinamide are excreted in the urine.
Oftan ® Katahrom is a combined preparation, the mechanism of action of which is primarily based on the antioxidant and metabolism-improving and trophic effects of the eye tissues of the active components that make up its composition – cytochrome C, adenosine and nicotinamide.
Cytochrome Cis a high molecular weight iron porphyrin compound, similar in structure to hemoglobin, consists of heme and a single peptide chain (apocytochrome C). Cytochrome C plays an important role in biochemical redox processes. It has a high chemical activity in relation to the utilization of oxygen radicals. Inhibition of oxidative processes in all tissues anterior to the lens (cornea and intraocular fluid) is of great importance for suppressing the development of cataracts, since ultraviolet radiation causes chain reactions in these tissues with the formation of radicals that can lead to clouding of the lens. Cytochrome C, which is part of Oftanâ Katahrom eye drops, has the ability to neutralize oxygen radicals in certain redox states and,
Adenosine is a necessary component for the repair of DNA and RNA, as well as a structural element of these molecules. Adenosine is involved in the processes of energy metabolism. Adenosine is the main element of DNA repair in the lens epithelium, which is necessary to repair damage caused, for example, by the damaging effects of oxidation. Due to its vasodilating action and increased ocular blood supply, adenosine helps flush out toxic decay products, stimulating the production and exchange of intraocular fluid. Adenosine reduces inflammation in the conjunctiva, cornea, and other eye tissues.
Nicotinamide is a structural element of NAD and NADP. Promotes the regeneration of endothelial cells of the lens, which helps prevent cataracts.
Indications for use
Dosage and administration
Locally, 1-2 drops in the conjunctival sac of the affected eye 3 times a day.
The course of treatment is determined by the attending physician.
– short-term burning and stinging of the eyes
– contact dermatitis
– arterial hypotension, dizziness
– shortness of breath
Nicotinic acid has a vasodilating effect and can cause:
– hot flashes
– sensation of heat
– sensation of pulsation in the temples
– hypersensitivity to the components of the drug
– pregnancy and lactation
– children and adolescents under the age of 18
There were no clinically significant interactions with other drugs.
Oftan Katahrom eye drops are not intended for the treatment of glaucoma. Oftanâ Katahrom contains benzalkonium chloride as a preservative and is not recommended for use when wearing contact lenses. Before using the drug, remove contact lenses and re-install them no earlier than 15 minutes later. Benzalkonium chloride may cause transient eye irritation.
Pregnancy and lactation
Since the safety and efficacy of Oftan Katahrom eye drops during pregnancy and lactation have not been studied, the use of the drug is not recommended.
Application in pediatrics
The safety and efficacy of Oftanâ Catachrom eye drops in children have not been evaluated in appropriate and well-controlled studies, so the use of the drug in children and adolescents under 18 years of age is not recommended.
Features influence on the ability to drive vehicles and potentially dangerous mechanisms
The drug does not affect the ability to drive a car or use mechanical equipment. As with all ophthalmic preparations, if transient blurred vision is noted, the patient should wait until vision is restored before driving or using mechanical equipment.
