Pharmacological properties

Pharmacokinetics

With external and local application, activated glycyrrhizic acid is deposited in the lesions. Systemic absorption is slow. The drug is found in the blood in trace amounts.

Pharmacodynamics

The active substance of the drug Epigen intima is activated glycyrrhizic acid, obtained by extraction from plant materials (licorice root)

Activated glycyrrhizic acid has a complex effect, which includes immunostimulating, antiviral, anti-inflammatory and regenerating.

Activated glycyrrhizic acid induces the production of its own interferons. The immunostimulating effect is manifested by an increase in the number and activity of T-lymphocytes, a decrease in the concentration of immunoglobulin G and an increase in the concentration of immunoglobulin A and M.

Activated glycyrrhizic acid has an antiviral effect on various types of DNA and RNA viruses in vitro in vivo (Varicella Zoster; herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2; cytomegalovirus, various types of human papillomavirus, including oncogenic ones). Activated glycyrrhizic acid interrupts the replication of viruses in the early stages, causing the release of the virion from the capsid. Thus preventing its penetration into the cells. Activated glycyrrhizic acid inactivates these viruses in non-toxic concentrations for normally functioning cells. Mutant strains of viruses resistant to acyclovir and iodouridine are also highly sensitive to glycyrrhizic acid, as are non-mutant strains.

The anti-inflammatory activity of activated glycyrrhizic acid is combined with a stimulating effect on humoral and cellular immunity factors. Activated glycyrrhizic acid significantly inhibits the release of kinins and the synthesis of prostaglandins by connective tissue cells in the area of inflammation. The regenerating effect is due to the improvement in the repair of the skin and mucous membranes.

Indications for use

– infection caused by the herpes simplex virus (acute primary and recurrent course)

– Prevention of recurrence of herpes virus infection; treatment of herpes zoster caused by the varicella zoster virus (as part of combination therapy)

– treatment of papillomavirus infection caused by various types (including oncogenic) of the human papillomavirus

– treatment of nonspecific colpitis and vaginosis, normalization of the vaginal microflora

– prevention of infections during unprotected sex

Method of application and dose.

Outwardly, intravaginally and intraurethral.

Shake the bottle before use.

When using the container, keep it in an upright position.

Adults

For external use, the drug is applied to the entire affected skin surface from a distance of 4-5 cm by 1-2 valve presses, which is the optimal therapeutic dose.

For intravaginal use of the drug, a special nozzle with a spray is attached. Remove the valve from the spray bottle and put on the nozzle valve. Then insert the nozzle into the vagina and inject by pressing the nozzle valve 1-2 times, which is the optimal therapeutic dose.

When used by men, in addition to external application, the drug is injected into the external opening of the urethra 1-2 by pressing the spray valve from a distance of 0.5-1 cm.

In case of herpesvirus infection type 1, herpes zoster, the drug is recommended to be used 6 times a day on the lesion for 5 days. With the persistent course of the infectious process, the treatment period is extended until the symptoms of the disease completely disappear.

With herpesvirus infection type 2 (genital herpes), cytomegalovirus infection, it is recommended to apply 5 times a day for 14 days externally and intravaginally, after stopping a relapse 3 times a day for 10 days.

In order to prevent recurrence of genital herpes and cytomegalovirus infection, the drug is recommended to be used externally and intravaginally from the 18-20th day of the menstrual cycle until the end of menstruation 2 times a day in the morning and evening.

With papillomavirus infection, the drug is recommended to be used:

– until the removal of genital warts – 3 times a day during the entire period of etiotropic therapy.

– against the background of destruction – 5 times a day for 10 days or more until complete healing.

– to prevent the next recurrence 3 times a day for 1 month.

To prevent the progression of papillomavirus infection, it is recommended to use before and after sexual intercourse, as well as in the event of provoking factors (stress, overwork, respiratory viral infections, microflora disturbance, antibiotics, cytostatics) – 3 times a day intravaginally and externally during the entire period of exposure provoking factors.

In case of bacterial vaginosis, nonspecific vulvovaginitis and vulvovaginal candidiasis: the drug is recommended to be used intravaginally 3-4 times a day for 7-10 days. If necessary, repeat the course of treatment after 10 days. In the event of provoking factors (respiratory viral infections, taking antibiotics, cytostatics) – 3 times a day intravaginally and externally during the entire period of exposure to provoking factors.

As a prophylactic antiviral agent, the drug is recommended to be used before and after sexual intercourse.

Side effects

– possible individual intolerance to the components of the drug

In rare cases, local allergic reactions are possible, including in the form of contact dermatitis.
