Description

One tablet contains

  • Active ingredient – Artichoke (dry, aqueous leaf extract) 200.0 mg
  • Auxiliary substances: magnesium trisilicate, pregelatinized corn starch, talc, magnesium stearate, gummilac (shellac), rosin, gelatin, sucrose, calcium carbonate, dispersed dye, carnauba wax, polysorbate 80.

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacokinetics

Due to the fact that artichoke extract contains a complex of biologically active substances, including: polyphenolic substances (luteolin, cynarin, caffeic, chlorogenic and ferulic acids), bioflavonoids, inulin, minerals and trace elements, vitamins, sesquiterpenlactones, and the effect of the drug is caused by the combined action of all its components, carrying out kinetic studies is not possible; all components cannot be traced using markers or bio-research. For the same reason, it is impossible to detect all the metabolites of the drug.

Pharmacodynamics

The pharmacological effect of the drug is due to the complex of biologically active substances that make up the field artichoke.

Pharmacodynamic studies indicate choleretic, hepatoprotective, antioxidant, mild diuretic, hypocholesterolemic effects.

The complex effect of polyphenolic substances, such as luteolin, cynarin, caffeic, chlorogenic and ferulic acids, prevents cholesterol biosynthesis by specifically blocking the activation of hydroxymethylglutaryl-CoA reductase by insulin, without affecting other insulin-dependent phenomena (such as lactic acid synthesis).

Caffeic acid reduces the level of aflatoxin synthesized by pathogenic fungal flora.

Chlorogenic acid, a derivative of caffeic acid, slows down the release of glucose in the blood after a meal and inhibits glucose-6-phosphatase, decreasing hepatic glycogenolysis.

Ferulic acid, a methylated form of caffeic acid and a component of lignocellulose, binds lignin to polysaccharides. Ferulic acid derivatives scolimozide and scopoletin normalize blood pressure, have an anti-inflammatory effect, and increase the level of serotonin, the main endogenous antidepressant.

Tsinarin, cyanidin, cyanopicrin are more complex derivatives of caffeic acid, have antioxidant, choleretic, spasmolytic, hepatoprotective effects, increase the evacuation of bile, and reduce cholesterol levels.

The bioflavonoids luteolin, apigenin, hesperidin, quercetin and rutin are antioxidants with anti-inflammatory effects.

Luteolin and apigenin promote the metabolism of carbohydrates, inhibit the production and secretion of anti-inflammatory cytokines TNF-alpha and interleukins IL-1beta, IL-6, IL-4, IL-13.

Apigenin blocks the formation of uric acid.

Hesperidin reduces total cholesterol and blood pressure. Quercetin slows down the synthesis and secretion of histamine, inhibits the enzyme lipoxygenase and cytochrome CYP3A4.

The minerals and trace elements contained in the artichoke: calcium, potassium, magnesium, iron, ascorbic acid, as well as carotene, vitamins B1 and B2, inulin contribute to the normalization of metabolic processes.

The high content of potassium in relation to sodium has a positive effect on salt metabolism.

Inulin stimulates the immune system, increases the absorption of minerals (especially calcium), reduces the risk of atherosclerosis, and modulates the levels of carbohydrate metabolic hormones insulin and glucagon. The mechanism of action is due to the effect of inulin metabolism products on cellular proteins. The decrease in the level of triglycerides in the blood and liver occurs through a decrease in the secretion of very low density lipoprotein from the liver as a result of a decrease in the activity of lipogenic enzymes. The activity of these enzymes is reduced through direct inulin inulin inhibition by metabolites.

Sesquiterpenlactones improve the glomerular filtration capacity of the kidneys, have a mild potassium-sparing diuretic effect, increase diuresis and the release of end products of nitrogen metabolism and liver detoxification products.
