Description
Compound
1 ml of the drug contains:
- Active ingredient – sodium azapentacene polysulfonate 0.15 mg,
- Excipients: boric acid, sodium tetraborate decahydrate, potassium chloride, thiomersal, methyl parahydroxybenzoate, propyl parahydroxybenzoate, sodium hydroxide, water for injection

Pharmacodynamics
Cataxol is an ophthalmic drug that is used for cataracts. Azapentacene protects the sulfhydryl groups of the lens from oxidation and promotes the resorption of opaque lens proteins. It has an activating effect on proteolytic enzymes contained in the aqueous humor of the anterior chamber of the eye. The drug can be used not only as a prophylactic against progressive cataracts, but also as a substance that dissolves opaque proteins.

Method of application and dosing regimen
For topical use only.
The drug Cataxol is instilled into the conjunctival sac of the affected eye, 2 drops 3-5 times a day.
After application, it is recommended to close the eyelids and press on the nasolacrimal duct, which reduces the systemic absorption of the drug, resulting in reduced side effects.
The drug is intended for long-term therapy. It is not recommended to interrupt treatment even in the event of a rapid improvement.

Drug Interactions
The interaction of the drug Cataxol with other drugs has not been established.
Special instructions
The drug contains thiomersal as an excipient , which can cause allergic reactions.
Contact lenses
Cataxol is not recommended for use while wearing contact lenses. Before using the drug, you should remove contact lenses and put them on no earlier than 15 minutes after instillation.
Do not touch the tip of the dropper to the eyes or any other surface.
Application in pediatrics
The use of Cataxol in children has not been studied.
Pregnancy and lactation
The use of cataxol eye drops in pregnant women is possible only as directed and under the strict supervision of a physician.
At the time of treatment should stop breastfeeding.
Features of the influence of the drug on the ability to drive a vehicle or potentially dangerous mechanisms
Patients who, after the use of the drug, temporarily lose their clarity of vision, should avoid potentially hazardous activities that require increased attention and speed of psychomotor reactions.
Overdose
There are no data on overdose of the drug in the form of eye drops.
Storage conditions
Store in a place protected from light at a temperature not exceeding 25°C.
Keep out of the reach of children!
Shelf life – 3 years.
After opening the vial, use the drug within 28 days.
Do not use after the expiration date.
